Up to the Present

So in order to get back into detailed blogs I am going to give some highlights of the weeks after the Cevennes trip.

The weekend after Cevennes I had a great plan not to do anything, but when I woke up and went down for breakfast on Saturday I discovered it was kitchen clean-out day....I spent many hours cleaning many gross things. Later in the evening I spent some quality time with Ingvild so I guess the day wasn't a total waste. I know that they were appreciative that I helped with the cleaning.

On Sunday of that weekend I went to the French church in the morning because in the afternoon we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day at the seminary by playing American football. I was only playing with one other American though so I was actually one of the better players. They then had green colored beer to finish off the afternoon. I also baked with Ingvild and Sarah that afternoon. Overall, it was a very good weekend.

The next weekend I had a bunch of plans as well. We were supposed to have a church picnic that Saturday, but due to rain it was canceled. (Too bad I had already taken the 1.5 mile walk there before finding out...) But then later that day all of us Uni girls from church had a sleep over in the church office. We had junk food (oreos and popcorn!) listened to music and watched movies! It was almost like being back in the states!

I'm skipping week days because they pretty much just consist of classes. Though the week after the sleepover I got a lot accomplished. I filled out my application to go to Spain next semester and essentially got accepted (still waiting on the official acceptance). I also found out that I am officially going to Peru on a missions trip this summer!! In addition to those bits of good news I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding which is very exciting!!! So this past week was a good week.

Friday I went to Book and Bar to work on a project that Sarah and I are doing on French television and then afterwards went grocery shopping for the first time in over a month. (don't worry I haven't been starving I have just been going to the market instead). I ended my day by going to Sarah's house for dinner and then Sarah came back and her, me, Ingvild, and Grace had a girls night with facial masks and hand massages.

Saturday we went to a town called Avignon where there is the Palais du Papes. Which is where the Pope resided in France after the Great Schism. It turned out to be a very nice day! We even got ice cream! Also fun fact: Cotton candy in French literally translates to Dad's beard. Here are some pictures!

Yesterday was Easter and I got up super duper early because I was part of the Easter Choir at church. This meant I had to be at church at 6:30 but because we did daylight savings this weekend it was very dark and people had been partying hard the night before...there were a lot of drunk people. I did not anticipate there being a problem but I just didn't think it through so I was by myself. I got to the church before anyone else so I was waiting and a man came up to me and started talking to me. I played the "I am extremely dumb and don't know any French" card. In reality I understood everything. He was asking me what I was doing in Aix and stuff not being overly creepy, but then he reached towards me and I immediately stepped back and told him VERY sternly "Au revoir Monsieur" he then proceeded to walk away. Unfortunately, at that same moment one of the younger girls from my church was coming around the corner and he actually grabbed her arm. She shoved him away and told him off in French. She then walked over to me and we just kept walking until he was gone. As we walked away he kept asking why we were running from him...CAUSE YOU'RE A CREEP! Then one of the men from the church showed up so we were much more comfortable. Though if the man had done anything more there was a hotel right there so I would have gone in. And apparently the concierge at the hotel had been watching anyways.

Church was good and then breakfast was served afterwards. It was so nice to be a part of a church family! I then went back and took a nap before heading to Madam Coates' for the rest of the day. She served Sarah, Grace and I lunch we had all kinds of new foods like duck and goose. We hung out at their house all day. We ended our day by watching a James Bond film in French! It was so great to be in a family setting on Easter even if it wasn't like being at home.

Today I was supposed to go climb Mt. St. Victoire, but it was supposed to rain so I didn't go...but its not raining...Oh well there will be other chances to go and staying here all day gives me the opportunity to catch up on this blog as well as work more on my project. Now I can post in the present!!! Finally!!! Thanks for being so patient with me! This week is a short week with no plans in particular, but who knows what might come up! It's always an adventure here in France!
