Quotidien

Another day, another blog. I am currently laying in bed waiting for my hair to dry a bit before turning in for the night so I thought I would keep up with my blog and talk about today.

I woke up at 7 this morning to an email from my friends back at Gordon who I will hopefully be living with when I get back to Gordon next spring. We are applying for off-campus housing so I had to fill out a form and turn it in. I then proceeded to get ready for class and went down to the kitchen to have my usual breakfast of bread with Nutella.

Then I headed off to my language class which started at 8:30. We did some grammar work with the plus-que-parfais and the conditional tenses. Then we did something that I don't think has ever happened in a Gordon classroom. We took a group test. We got into groups of three and took a test together. It was very strange but three heads are definitely better than one and I was in a group with the Norwegian guy who is probably the best in the class.

After language class ended at 12:00 I headed over to a store called Bio Ci Bon which is basically an organic food store. I bought some rice cakes for 72 centimes because I had bought some peanut butter the other day. My lunch was rice cakes and peanut butter. You may think that is boring but peanut butter is hard to come by and VERY expensive so this meal was a treat.

I then had theater class starting at 12:30 and we are in the midst of reading a play called L'ile des esclaves, which translates to Island of Slaves. It's about these aristocrats who get shipwrecked with their slaves on an island where the slaves are masters. It's a comedy by Marivaux who is kind of like Shakespeare in my opinion.

At 2:30 class ended and I headed back to the seminary. As part of living at the seminary each student is assigned a tache or task to do during the semester. I was given the task of Jardinage or working in the garden. Since it was an absolutely beautiful day today I worked in the garden for 2 hours. (I have to do 14 during the semester) After that I took a little break to watch some good old American TV and then headed to Bible study.

Today the study was on Matthew 25:1-13 which is the parable of the 10 virgins. For those of you who do not know the story. There are ten virgins with lamps waiting for a groom, when the groom is late they all fall asleep. At midnight the groom finally comes, but only five of the virgins have enough oil to keep their lamps going and therefore have to go buy some more. The party starts with the five who are prepared and the door to the party is closed. When the five unprepared virgins arrive they knock but the groom responds "Truly I do not know you"

This parable is describing the return of Christ. He will come when we least expect it. Or this could even parallel the shortness of our lives. Recently a freshman at Gordon was killed in a drunk driving accident. While I learned about the story through the emails Gordon sent, her death really hit home when I found out that one of the guys  in my youth group here in Aix (not a Gordon student) was a close friend of hers. Life is short! Are you ready?

Anyway I know this wasn't the most exciting of posts, but this is my daily life! Again please ask any questions you may have in the comments section below! They will be the inspiration for my future blog posts when my day consisted of nothing eventful.
